This just made me mad
I had a conversation with my daughter a couple of days ago as we were commuting home.
Cici: My friends all left me today. I was alone with my teacher.
Me: Where did your friends go?
Cici: They went with the lady for dancing. I couldn’t go. My name wasn’t on the list.
Me: You were by yourself? What did you do?
Cici: I played with my teacher but I was sad because all of my friends went away without me. My name wasn’t on the list, Mommy.
This comes back to a bit of an argument I’m having with the day care center she goes to. It’s not the most expensive day care in the area, but it’s not cheap. They’ve been dealing with a lot of attrition of teachers for the older students lately and the woman running the center seems to be filling the gaps by bringing in outside vendors to entertain the children. These vendors are people who specialize in teaching young children music or dance or who are just straight out entertainers.
I wouldn’t have a problem with this, except that she’s passing on the costs for these outside vendors to the parents. The nickle and diming getting tacked on to the bill every month are starting to add up. The “summer program” is running $150.
It does beg the question: What are the staff teachers doing during that time?
I explained my issue and asked her what Cici would be doing if I chose not to pay for the summer program. I asked “would she just be left alone in her classroom or with another class of younger kids while her friends went off to do something else? I don’t want her to feel like she’s being punished.”
I was assured that there were alternate lesson plans for those children who don’t participate in the program and that Cici would be fine. I asked for more details about what those would be and who else would be in the classroom with her. She never responded.
*heavy sigh* I really hate being lied to.
Stay tuned for more updates on this continuing saga.
UPDATE: She called me back, apologized, and signed Cici up for the classes she actually can attend (considering her schedule). No idea what I’ll get charged, but next week Cici will be on the stinkin’ list.
